#10 What high school you went?, Means Where you from?

Before district exception, fanatical school pride and the No Child Left Behind Act, there was public schools. Everyone attended the school nearest their house. It's amazing that some kids still do, but the question ever lingers, What high school you went? For example, if the answer is Kalani High School, then we assume you're from Kahala, Wailae Iki, Kalani, or Aina Haina.
This was sometimes true for private schools as well. For instance, if the answer was Punahou, then we could assume that you were from Manoa or even Kailua.

But for the Hawaiians that attended Kamehameha it was a bit tricky. Because they accepted students from the outer islands. So the conversation would normally go like this,

"Hey, what school you went?"
"Kamehameha."
"You went dorm there?"
"Yeah."
"Oh, so where you from?"
"Big Island, Hilo side."

This will also work for mainland kids too. Just keep in mind Hawaiians are trying to find out where you are from, and then who you might know that they know also.

Eh, I went Kalani and I no stay stuck up! Of course our football team hasn't been playing well for decades but the math team, tennis team, baseball team, etc., have all performed very effectively. We do have some highly respected alumni as well. Go Falcons!
