#12 The Overthrow

This seems to always touch a nerve with the wrong people. But since this time there is nothing good about what happened on January 17, 1893. It ranks among the highest unjustifiable crimes committed in world history. Right up there with things such as the Mountains Meadow Massacre, the Jewish Holocaust, the assassination of Abraham Lincoln, the assassination of John F. Kennedy, the Bombing of Pearl Harbor, the nuclear bombing of Hiroshima, the nuclear bombing of Nagasaki, the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the assassination of Malcolm X, the execution of Joan of Arc, the martyrdom of Stephen, the assassination of Mahatma Ghandi and of course, the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.

Simply, the selfish desire of greedy conspirators, who took the opportunity to exploit a peace loving people in the middle of the Pacific. Hawaiians that understand what happened are not happy. Who could be? It was over 1hundred years, while President Clinton was in office, before the United States even issued a formal apology for unjustly overthrowing the Hawaiian government and annexing Hawaii to the U.S.

Although we can never turn back the clock, or renounce our adoption to the U.S., our Flag and Honor; this should be a lesson to all Hawaiians, and for All Americans, to never be kept ignorant, or be held back from learning about the "Overthrow of the Hawaiian Monarchy." We pledge our allegiance to the United States of America, but unlike everyone else in this nation, we stay Hawaiian...that makes us pretty special.

It seems that all the people of the world have taken turns doing horrible things to their fellow man. That's why it's so important for us to know and understand history and never, ever forget. Then there is the need to look upward and forward and make this a better place to live in. It can be possible ... it's up to each one of us.
