Keaukaha (Community)

Local Word of the Day LWOD is “Keaukaha.” K-E-A-U-K-A-H-A I love you! “aukaha” means desolate. Take one drive (or as locals say “Beach Run”) thru and you’ll see nothing desolate about the 2nd oldest Hawaiian Homes community in the state. Situated East of Hilo town, Ironically, Q-kaha was swampland that Hawaiians converted into a paradise of fishponds and cool swimming pools.
