hukilau

is "Hukilau." means "pull the leaf." A beach on the Northeast side of Oahu, named after the Hawaiian method of fishing done in Laie Bay. Crews would swim/oar nets out to sea and people on shore pulled the nets in. Also known to the old folks as Hamana Beach (after the Laie fisherman, Hamana Kalili: the 2 fingered man who invented the Shaka). The world-famous hapa-haole song was composed due to this experience first held in 1947. "Brah, Hukilau no more fish!" "Brah, Get!
